Plaid has announced to CNBC exclusively that Brian Dammeir, Adyen's Global Head of Unified Commerce, is appointed the new Head of Europe. Dammeir will replace Ripsy Bandourian who was responsible for the firm's progress in Europe up to this point. This hiring comes at a crucial juncture for the US-based fintech company.
Plaid, a U.S. financial technology firm, has appointed Brian Dammeir, a former Adyen executive, as its new head of Europe. At Adyen, Dammeir had served as global head of unified commerce, managing the company's online, in-store, and app-based payment experiences. Dammeir will be succeeding Ripsy Bandourian, who oversaw the company's expansion into Europe, as Plaid works towards expanding its payments and lending services. Valued at $13.4 billion in a funding round, the tech firm permits financial apps to gain access to bank accounts and process payments. This process is known as "open banking," and is encouraging the opening up of financial data to non-bank financial institutions.
In an exclusive interview with CNBC, Dammeir spoke of his enthusiasm for the potential of "open finance" and striving to be more relevant globally via extending into account-to-account payments, as well as into lending and traditional banking. Bandourian, a former Booking.com executive, had been Plaid's first head of Europe and has since moved on to pursue other passions. Dammeir himself worked at Adyen in North America and Europe for more than 8 years. Payment volumes on Plaid's platform have grown 90% in 2023, and the company has been forging partnerships with fintechs such as Monzo, Checkout.com, Public, and Moneybox, along with others.
