Apple's iPhone 15 Launch Set for Tuesday - What to Expect

Apple is looking to Tuesday's major event at its Cupertino, California headquarters to roll out the iPhone 15 and fresh Apple Watch models and hopefully spark an uptick in sales to counter the challenge posed by Huawei and entice Android phone owners to switch to Apple. On Tuesday, Apple is hosting its most significant launch event of the year from its Cupertino, California headquarters. Company executives will be featured in a pre-recorded video that will be streamed on YouTube and Apple's website. This will be the second consecutive year that Apple uses a pre-recorded video; the event typically lasts about an hour and a half. Excitement builds around the event in the lead up to the December quarter - Apple's most important quarter in terms of revenue. Last year's launch video was viewed by 31 million people, further demonstrating the solid customer base Apple has built. Apple looks to this event to improve its fortunes, fight competition from Huawei, and encourage Android users to switch to iPhones. The VR headset, Vision Pro, which was introduced in June, may receive an update but more details are expected to come in 2021. As far as Macs and iPads go, Apple usually reserves these launches for their own separate events - last year the company announced new iPads through a press release. The invitation this year bears the tagline "wonderlust" - although it is uncertain what this will mean for the event itself. CNBC will cover the launch through a live blog on their website. Previous launch events have revealed new iPhones, Apple Watches, and updated AirPods. We will have to wait and see what exciting products Apple unveils this year. It is anticipated that Apple will continue the pattern of releasing four new iPhone models in 2021, reportedly under the iPhone 15 brand. This is likely to include two models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens that possess middle-range features, as well as two higher-end "Pro" phones with titanium cases and superior cameras. The most noteworthy alteration appears to be a switch from the Lightning port, which was released in 2012, to a USB-C charging port, a move required by European regulations. Apple are likely to promote the benefits of the switch to its users, such as faster charging and convenience, while giving the port a new name of their own. Apple's new Pro models could potentially have a titanium casing, which would be lighter than the stainless steel of prior models. An invitation to the event seemingly portrays the Apple logo in a titanium finish. The lower-end phone, most likely dubbed the iPhone 15, is expected to incorporate the "dynamic island" on top of the display meant for facial recognition. Last year’s Pro models shifted away from the notch in favor of the “undulating window,” a feature that can indicate updates, such as the location of an Uber or the track playing in a music app. The mute switch, a standard iPhone feature, could gain more capabilities as an assignable "action button.” In terms of hardware, Apple will likely enhance the camera and chip capabilities of its phones, particularly on the bigger Pro device which could be furnished with a lens capable of twofold zooming compared to the current 3x zoom lens on the iPhone 14 Pro. It remains to be seen if Apple will up prices this year due to the increasing costs of parts, like memory and processors, but they have not done so in the U.S. in the past year under similar circumstances. However, Apple does regularly adjust the cost of its phones internationally after launches and in response to changes in currency value. Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 8 and a high-end titanium device known as the Ultra last September. Subsequent iterations of these gadgets may include upgrades like a more powerful chip and improved health sensors. Nevertheless, more profound changes are anticipated to enter the scene in 2021 for the watch's tenth anniversary. The AirPods Pro will get a new Adaptive Audio feature that relies solely on software and machine learning to decrease the volume and noise cancelation so that users can stay closer to their environment. Most likely, Apple will also modify its other devices such as headsets, mice, and keyboards to be compatible with the USB-C port, although any such announcements may come at a later date. Even if you don't intend to buy a new iPhone or Watch, your device will still be able to benefit from the latest software. Apple unveils its new operating systems in June, and distributes them to all users in September, just in time to debut the newest iPhones. Remarkably, many of Apple's most noteworthy upgrades do not necessitate new hardware and can be accessed by any iPhone released in 2018 or later. Here are some of the improvements featured in iOS 17: The caller ID screen will now feature ‘contact posters’, which allows users to choose the image that appears when they call other iPhone users. Autocorrect has been revolutionized with the introduction of transformer-based language model technology, the same system used in ChatGPT. A new Journal app encourages users to document their thoughts and feelings daily, while performing on-device machine learning to recognize patterns without having to send the data to a cloud server. Furthermore, Standby Dock mode has been included, allowing the phone to transform into a clock with widgets that displays alarms, appointments, and other updating information. There is also a NameDrop app that functions like a business card, enabling users to easily exchange personal information by tapping their phones together. Last but certainly not least, a new offline Apple Maps feature allows for navigation, even if cell service is not available.
