China Calls for End of Hostilities in Israel-Hamas Conflict

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged related parties to remain tranquil, exercise self-restraint and immediately put an end to the hostilities in order to shield civilians and prevent the situation from worsening any further. No reference was made to Hamas, the Palestinian militant group controlling the Gaza Strip and declared a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the European Union. The Chinese ministry asserted that the key to a resolution of the dispute lies in the implementation of the two-state solution and the formation of an independent State of Palestine. China called for an end to the fighting between Israel and Hamas and advocated for the formation of an independent State of Palestine, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated Sunday. Describing it as an "escalation of tensions and violence," they urged all sides to "remain calm, exercise restraint, and immediately end the hostilities to protect civilians and avoid further deterioration of the situation." China further stated that the international community must take immediate steps to facilitate the resumption of peace talks and bring about lasting peace. On Monday, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, further sounded a call for peace, denouncing "all violence and attacks against civilians."
