Elon Musk Urges Disney to Dismiss Executive Following Advertising Dispute

Elon Musk indicated that Disney should act swiftly to remove Bob Iger from his position as CEO after the company pulled its advertising from X. Mr Musk expressed that Walt Disney would be rolling over in his grave due to Bob's actions with the Disney enterprise. He articulated his disapproval in a set of messages directed at the corporate behemoth. It comes just a week after he told companies that joined an ad boycott of his platform, formerly known as Twitter, to "Go [blank] yourself". Certain companies have ceased their promotional activities on X due to worries regarding the propagation of antisemitism. Disney did not give an immediate answer when the BBC asked for a comment on Friday. Less than one year after stepping down from his role at Disney, Mr Iger made a surprising return to guide the company through tumultuous times, such as a dip in share prices and the continuing deficit from streaming service Disney+. Throughout his tenure at the corporation, he has earned praise for orchestrating significant purchases including Pixar, Marvel, 21st Century Fox (owned by Rupert Murdoch) and Lucasfilm (Star Wars's parent company). The company's market value experienced a five-fold growth as a result of the changes made as well as the openings of amusement parks. On Thursday, Mr Musk implied the recent box-office underperformance of certain Disney properties, noting that Mr Iger had "caused more destruction than a B-52". The multi-billionaire also accused Disney of promoting their content on other social media outlets that tolerated controversial materials. Last week, at an event in New York, Mr Musk vented his frustration in an impassioned speech, admonishing advertisers who abandoned X and cautioning that such behaviour could lead to the demise of the social media platform. He further claimed that companies such as Disney, Apple and Comcast, which have temporarily suspended their advertisements on the platform, are attempting to coerce him. Mr Musk declared at the New York Times' DealBook Summit that he did not wish for them to promote. If someone is attempting to blackmail me with advertising or money, kindly go away. "Go ahead. [Expression of annoyance]. Your own self. Is that clear? Hey Bob, if you're present, that's how I feel." Mr Musk seemed to be speaking of Mr Iger, who had presented at the summit earlier on. Linda Yaccarino, X's CEO, shared Mr Musk's "candid interview" following her participation in the summit. She imparted her thoughts on advertising that "X sits at a remarkable and extraordinary junction of Freedom of Expression and Everyday Life — and the X group is influential and is ready to receive you". Mr Musk recently visited Israel after his public support last month of an alleged antisemitic conspiracy theory. Despite denying the post was antisemitic, he expressed regret for it, dubbing it as potentially the "most foolish" thing he had shared online. Even though many advertisers had already allocated their funds somewhere else. In July, Mr Musk noted in an X post that ad income had dropped by half.
