Elon Musk Visits Israel Following Controversy Over Antisemitism

This video is unable to be played. Observe: Elon Musk and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's trip to Kfar Aza, a community besieged by Hamas on October 7th. Israel's president has communicated to Elon Musk that he has an imperative part to play in halting antisemitism, which both he and his social media outlet X have been charged with fostering. Isaac Herzog spoke to the entrepreneur, talking about how social media - which the entrepreneur manages - carries a lot of the same age-old antisemitism. On Monday, Mr. Musk went to a kibbutz which was the subject of the fatal attack conducted by Hamas. He visited Kfar Aza with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. Mr Musk was exposed to videos of the 7 October assaults conducted by Hamas, resulting in 1,200 deaths and 240 abductions, this included explicit footage taken from bodycams. According to the medical department operated by Hamas in Gaza, there were more than 14,500 fatalities in the response launched by Israel. Mr Musk and Mr Netanyahu shared the view that the only way to establish peace and security was to eliminate Hamas during a short live-streamed discussion on X. Mr Netanyahu stated that the approach used in Germany and Japan during World War II must be adopted again in order to remove the hazardous regime. Mr Musk responded: "It's not an option; it's necessary." The journey culminated in a consensus regarding Mr Musk's Starlink satellite internet offering. Following the increased military activity of Israel leading to widespread internet disruption and outages in Gaza, Mr Musk suggested providing Starlink to major relief groups in the region. In contrast, Israel posited that the tech would be employed by Hamas. An agreement has been made such that Starlink can only be employed in Israel and Gaza following approval by the Israeli government. Shlomo Karhi, Israel's Communication Minister, asserted that this understanding was "essential". After Media Matters for America conducted an investigation that revealed ads from Apple, Disney, IBM and Comcast were being placed next to pro-Nazi posts, all of those companies halted their adverts on X. This prompted Mr Musk's visit. X has fiercely rebutted the report, disputing its research methods, and has taken serious legal action through what Elon Musk described as a "thermonuclear lawsuit" against the organisation. Media Matters labeled Mr Musk a bully in response. Mr Musk has also been criticised for promoting an antisemitic trope when he replied to a post on X which claimed a conspiracy theory that Jewish communities were responsible for fomenting hatred against white people, which he labelled as "actual truth". It seemed like a show of support for the "white genocide" conspiracy theory, which posits that Jews purposely bring "non-white" individuals to Western nations in order to get rid of the white population. A major reaction ensued when the White House, among other entities, expressed its condemnation of Mr Musk's approval of the post. Mr Musk has rejected claims that his post was antisemitic, and has argued that his words were aimed not at Jews in general, but at organisations such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which has voiced criticism of the platform, and other unidentified organisations.
