Elon Musk stated that individuals who use the platform formerly known as Twitter will not have the opportunity to block unwelcome followers. The capacity of someone to cut off content from individuals they do not want to be associated with was traditionally thought of as a fundamental safety measure to protect against online abuse and bombardment with ads or unfavorable posts. Musk declared that blocking would now only be accessible in direct messages.Elon Musk's X is eliminating the platform's popular blocking feature, except for direct messages. Upon the deletion of this long-standing safety safeguard, users will no longer be able to keep unwanted followers from viewing their content. Rather than block, they will be restricted to using the mute feature, which only covers the user's individual feed rather than other people's.The removal of the block feature has been highly criticized by users, and also by Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao who believes that the platform should first tackle the problem of bots and spam. Louis Jones of the Brand Safety Institute wrote in an email to CNBC that this "lax approach" to free speech risks creating a "downward spiral" for X, and making bullying more widespread.
