Producers in Hollywood made public their latest agreement offer as the negotiations between the studios and the writers union keep up the tension. The proposal covers residuals and remuneration, as well as looks into the use of Artificial Intelligence and offers more clarity on the streaming industry. Following the offer, the writers union released its latest news and informed that since the Aug. 11 offer, discussions between parties have carried on.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) recently unveiled their latest contract proposal, which addressed the top issues for the Writers Guild of America (WGA); residuals and compensation, artificial intelligence, and increased transparency in regards to streaming business. The proposal includes the largest wage increase that the WGA has seen in 35 years ("a compounded 13% increase over the three-year contract, with an increase of 5% in year one; 4% in year two; and 3.5% in year three"), as well as higher residuals, a new compensation structure, protection against the use of AI, and transparency in streaming viewership data. Talks between the studios and the writers have been tense since the strike began over 100 days ago, and the actors' union went on strike in July as well.Following the AMPTP's proposal, several top media executives - including Disney CEO Bob Iger, NBCUniversal film head Donna Langley, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav - held a meeting with the WGA, during which the AMPTP was accused of wanting the writers to "cave". The AMPTP has yet to comment on the matter. In a statement, AMPTP President Carol Lombardini said that their priority was to end the strike and end the hardships that had been experienced by those involved in the industry. Though talks appear to be far from over, the AMPTP is hopeful of a resolution.
