Investigation launched into potential dangers posed by ChatGPT's responses

US regulators are investigating OpenAI, a firm that develops artificial intelligence, concerning the potential hazards to consumers stemming from Chat GPT's production of false information. The FTC dispatching a missive to the business which is supported by Microsoft inquiring about approaches to safeguarding people's reputations. Evidence of increased regulatory supervision of technology can be seen through the inquiry. Since the launch of OpenAI's chatbot last year, there has been much controversy and debate. ChatGPT produces replies that resemble those of a human in an instant, rather than the chain of links generated by a regular internet search. This, and different AI technologies, are predicted to profoundly impact the way individuals get data they are seeking out on the internet. Competitors in the tech industry are competing fiercely to provide their own versions of the technology, with a heated argument over the data used to train the program, the precision of the answers given and whether the firm infringed upon authors' rights while teaching the technology. The FTC has inquired as to what OpenAI has done to tackle the possibility of its products creating assertions regarding real people that are incorrect, deceitful, diminishing, or injurious. The FTC is evaluating OpenAI's data privacy practices and exploring sources of data utilized to instruct and hone the AI. This spring, Congress held a hearing featuring OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman, during which he acknowledged that the technology could be a source of mistakes. He endorsed the creation of regulations for the evolving industry and suggested founding a new agency to tackle it. Altman predicted that the technology would have a major influence as its purposes become known, including on the labor force. Mr Altman expressed his concern that if this technology failed, it could have drastic consequences. He also said he wants to collaborate with the government to ensure disasters can be avoided. The Washington Post first made known the FTC inquiry by releasing a copy of the letter, while OpenAI declined to give a statement upon being asked for one. The FTC decided not to provide any comment. Chairperson Lina Khan has been accorded a key position when it comes to managing the tech giants given her current post. Ms Khan gained recognition while attending Yale Law School for her vocal rejection of America's performance with regard to anti-monopoly measures regarding Amazon. Joe Biden has appointed a contentious figure to the Federal Trade Commission, with several decrying that her efforts may be stretching the FTC beyond its jurisdictional power. Her attempts to impede the unification of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, some of which have been very prominent, have been obstructed in the courts. During a five-hour questioning session in Congress on Thursday, Republicans harshly criticized her for her guidance of the organization. She refrained from speaking on the FTC's inquiry into OpenAI that is currently in its initial stage. However, she noted that she was worried about the output of the product. Ms Khan reported that there have been instances of private details being revealed in response to inquiries from others. She expressed concern regarding libel, defamatory claims, and patently false information that has been reported. The FTC investigation is not the only difficulty the company has faced concerning these matters. Italy barred ChatGPT in April due to worries about privacy protection. However, once they added a way to check the ages of users as well as being more transparent about its privacy regulations, the service was returned to action.
