Jesse Watters to fill Tucker Carlson's primetime slot on Fox News

Fox News announced that Jesse Watters will be the new 8 p.m. ET primetime presenter, taking over from Tucker Carlson who had to leave after Fox Corp. reached an agreement to pay Dominion Voting Systems a settlement of $787.5 million in a defamation suit. Since Carlson exited in April, there have been several different presenters in the primetime show, bringing about lower ratings. Jesse Watters has been appointed by Fox News as its new 8 p.m. primetime star, in a bid to reclaim ratings following the sudden dismissal of Tucker Carlson two months ago. Watters, who rose from being a production assistant to one of the most recognizable personalities on the network, is the current host of the 7 p.m. opinion show "Jesse Watters Primetime" and appears regularly on the top-rated show "The Five".As part of the updated schedule, Laura Ingraham's show has been moved to 7 p.m., Sean Hannity will remain at 9 p.m. and Greg Gutfield's comedic program will be at 10 p.m.Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott stated in an announcement; "The unique perspectives of Laura Ingraham, Jesse Watters, Sean Hannity, and Greg Gutfeld will ensure our viewers have access to unrivaled coverage from our best-in-class team for years to come."The ratings suffered since Carlson's departure in April, amid speculation that the 787.5 million dollar settlement agreement between Fox Corp. and Dominion Voting Systems was a factor. Subsequent weeks saw a rise in viewership for networks such as Newsmax. In the absence of an explanation from Carlson as to why he was fired, Fox sent a cease-and-desist letter to him, following the launch of his own show on Twitter. Reports suggest the content of some private messages was discovered during the lawsuit that may have led to his ousting.
