Ken Griffin of Citadel Argues Hype Is Detrimental to AI Development

Ken Griffin, Founder and CEO of Citadel, has stated that artificial intelligence has potential to cause transformation in the future, but it is only in its early stages. Griffin added that he thinks the AI community is being overly optimistic with its predictions about generative AI's short-term implications and one field that could be significantly affected is that of programming and software engineering. Ken Griffin, the founder and CEO of Citadel, has expressed his belief that the many people are overdoing it in terms of the near-term implications of AI technology. Speaking at an event for Citadel's incoming class of interns in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Griffin argued that while this advanced technology may be transformative one day, it is still in its early stages. The billionaire investor also disputed the idea that AI is a threat to current skilled professional jobs. Instead, he believes that the ability to solve problems will be paramount. Griffin advised the interns to stay close to the domain problems and maintain their software engineering skills as they are an important part of the business. Despite its potential, he added that AI is still some way off from replacing programmers. With only 300 positions available, tens of thousands of students applied for Citadel's internships this year, with the acceptance rate falling below 1%, even lower than that of Harvard and MIT.
