Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott made the commitment to match the wages of OpenAI personnel who were considering leaving the organisation after the sudden removal of Sam Altman. On Monday morning, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Altman, Greg Brockman and their co-workers will be part of a fresh Artificial Intelligence exploration division within Microsoft. Nevertheless, the fate of OpenAI remains uncertain as Altman's come back to the company has not been definitively ruled out.
On Tuesday, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott indicated a willingness to match OpenAI employee compensation should they choose to join Microsoft's new AI Research Lab. Scott's comments on X gave further insight into Microsoft's plans for OpenAI and the possibility of Sam Altman and Greg Brockman joining the company. Earlier in the day, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella mentioned a need for significant change in the OpenAI governance structure, while expressing openness to both the company's employees remaining or joining Microsoft. Despite the speculation, the board of OpenAI has yet to explain why Altman was fired, and the future of the company remains unclear. In response, OpenAI's chief scientist Ilya Sutskever expressed sorrow over his involvement in the decision. Jordan Novet from CNBC also contributed to this report.
