This exchange came after news surfaced of Meta supposedly constructing a separate, text-based social networking app that could be a contender with Twitter.
In response to an Instagram post by Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, who had challenged him to a fight, Twitter owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk proposed Las Vegas as the site of a “cage match”. This exchange was sparked by Mario Nawfal's tweet regarding Facebook parent Meta's plans to launch an app which could compete with Twitter. Musk had commented on this tweet, which prompted another user to caution him that Zuckerberg was now practicing Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. Musk then replied with his suggestion for a “cage match”, referring to UFC’s popularized form of mixed martial arts, where fighters battle within an “Octagon”, a cage with eight sides.
The Verge tech publication verified that Zuckerberg is "intending to challenge Elon Musk and is now awaiting the particulars" if Musk goes ahead with it. A Meta representative told the news source when queried about Zuckerberg's Instagram story, "The narrative is self-explanatory." It is not certain if the battle among the two tech moguls will actually take place or whether Musk's tweets were sincere. When contacted by CNBC, a spokesperson for Meta was not accessible without delay. Wednesday night, Musk posted another tweet saying: "I have this awesome move which I dub 'The Walrus', where I just lie on top of my adversary & do nothing." He additionally commented, "I almost never exercise, except for picking up my children & hurling them in the air."
