A live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, the popular video game series, is being produced by Nintendo and Sony Pictures.
Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, who is well-known for his work on the Spider-Man trilogy, will collaborate on producing, with Wes Ball of The Maze Runner at the helm as the director.
As of yet, no information has been released as to who will be in the cast, or what the plot of the movie will be.
On Nintendo's Japanese X account, Mr Miyamoto posted that he has been collaborating with Arad on a movie project for a while.
He mentioned that the making of the movie has gotten underway, with Nintendo playing a big role in the process.
He told his followers that it will take some time until its completion, but he expressed his hope that they were excited to have a peek at it.
Since its launch in 1986, Nintendo's second most successful franchise has sold approximately 150 million copies, following the success of Super Mario.
The latest game in The Legend of Zelda series, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, smashed records when it was released last May, selling 10 million copies within its first three days of release, making it the fastest-selling instalment in the Zelda franchise ever.
The prior installment of the franchise, Breath of the Wild, has sold around 30 million copies in total, giving it the distinction of being the highest grossing game of the series.
This movie arrives in the midst of a resurgence of gaming movies, which were at one time believed to be almost without fail failures.
In the decade of the 90s, movie versions of renowned video games such as Super Mario Bros and Mortal Kombat fared badly both in terms of reviews and in their box office takings when they initially came out.
Nintendo's Super Mario Bros Movie, which debuted earlier in the year, made a huge splash; it was one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, taking in over $1bn (£800m) in worldwide ticket sales.
Although Mario achieved greatness, he was not the only one.
Movies based on Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog, featuring Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz and James Marsden, have generated hundreds of millions in ticket sales, and Detective Pikachu by Nintendo, starring Ryan Reynolds to portray the iconic pocket monster, was just as successful at the box office.
It is probable that the achievement of these movies has encouraged Nintendo to return to filmmaking, with experienced producer Avi Arad in control.
Since 2002, Mr Arad has been at the helm of most of the Spider-Man movies, having had prior experience at Marvel Studios.
He boasts a distinguished history in video gaming as well, having created the 2022 movie adaptation of the renowned video game series Uncharted featuring Tom Holland that grossed 400 million dollars at the box office.
This will be the inaugural effort to bring the Zelda series to the big screen, despite the fact that the franchise had an animated TV series back in 1989.
It was suggested in 2015 that Netflix was working on a new Zelda series, but nothing ever came of it.
