NLRB Accuses Elon Musk's X of Illegally Dismissing Employee Who Criticized Reopening Plans

The National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint alleging that Elon Musk's X had broken the law in dismissing an employee who voiced disapproval of their return-to-work policy. It was reported that he informed Twitter staff that "if they had the ability to reach the office, yet opted not to, it would be considered as their resignation." This triggered a reaction of "alarm and discontent" among numerous workers, as highlighted in the legal claim., analyst says The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has alleged that Elon Musk's X broke the law by firing an employee, Yao Yue, who had criticized management's return-to-work policy. X, formerly known as Twitter, is accused of illegally retaliating against Yue after she encouraged her colleagues not to resign following Musk's directive that employees "show up" in the office or else face termination. According to the NLRB's San Francisco branch, Musk had emailed instructions for his management team to scan online posts and Slack messages "in order to identify who should be fired". Five days after Yue posted her comments in a Slack chat, she was fired for allegedly violating an unspecified company policy. The NLRB is now seeking to "make Yao Yue whole for any direct or foreseeable pecuniary harm" resulting from X's alleged actions, in addition to other forms of compensation. A hearing on the case has been scheduled for January 30, 2021 in San Francisco. In response to her termination, Yue tweeted on November 15th, "After 12 amazing years and 3 weeks of chaos, I'm officially fired by Twitter. Never expected I would have stayed this long, and never expected I would be this relieved to be gone."
