PC Sales Predicted to Rebound in 2024 with AI Integration and Device Upgrades

The market research firm Canalys has predicted that the slump in personal computer sales is likely to be reversed in 2024, as customers upgrade their PCs from the pandemic era and purchase new AI-enabled devices. An 8% growth in this sector is anticipated, driven by the increasing demand for AI-enabled products. It is predicted that the personal computer sales slump will be turned around in the upcoming year due to consumers seemingly ready to buy updated PCs, with AI-equipped devices further aiding the market. Analysts, Ben Caddy and Kieren Jessop declared in a December 20th report that "at the end of a challenging year in PC sales, there must be optimism". They believe the PC market can ascend to an 8% increase in 2024, with the lack of support for Windows 10's operating system in 2025 motivating people to purchase new PCs. In agreement with this, IDC anticipates the PC market could expand by 3.4% next year. Data from IDC detailed how in 2020 there was the most significant global PC growth since 2010. In the third quarter of 2023, global PC shipments were at a 7.2% decrease compared to the same period the previous year. Conversely, this was caused by the lack of sales due to budgetary shifts and economic headwinds. Canalys anticipates that AI-enabled PCs will drive a revitalization of the PC market, with 60% of all PCs shipped in 2027 having AI capacities. Enrique Lores, CEO of HP, asserted in an interview with CNBC in April that his firm's new machines, with their AI features, will have a positive effect on the expansion of the PC industry. Canalys went on to say that, as users look to take advantage of the surge in generative AI, they will be keen to buy PCs incorporating such technology, with the aim of making their productivity and pleasure experiences all the more enriched.
