Chinese state regulators declared on Friday that Tesla is recalling more than 1.6 million vehicles. Drivers are not required to bring their automobiles anywhere, as the issue can be resolved through a no-cost over-the-air software update. This recall by Tesla in China follows the same one made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the U.S. last December.
China's State Administration for Market Regulation has recalled over 1.6 million Tesla cars in the country due to concerns that the Autopilot features and locks could lead to an increased risk of collision. These vehicles, including Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y models, can be repaired through a free over-the-air software update, so owners do not need to take their cars to a service center. Additionally, more than 7,500 Model S and Model X cars were recalled due to potential noncollision side door unlocking during a crash.Tesla's recall in the Chinese market follows a similar announcement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in December. At that time, the agency revealed that some of Tesla's Autopilot features were too easy to misuse, potentially leading to an increased risk of collision. Although Tesla disagreed with the agency's findings, it nevertheless agreed to provide a free software update that could resolve the problem.Shares of the electric automaker gained less than 1% on Friday.
