The red carpets, acceptance speeches and unexpected triumphs are routinely what people expect to see at award ceremonies. However, it is the orchestra that often steals the spotlight.
The Game Awards is set to take place later, and will be a celebration of the best titles from the past year.
Music and sound play a key role in any video game, so it is not surprising that these elements are prominently featured during the renowned "Oscars of gaming".
Lorne Balfe has been put in charge of making it happen and is serving as musical director and conductor.
He was tutored by the iconic Hans Zimmer, renowned in the film industry, and has collaborated on several hit movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible.
However, it was his compositions for the Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed series of games that attracted the attention of Game Awards organizer Geoff Keighley.
Lorne mentioned that he spends most of his time contentedly sequestered in the studio, yet he still chose to accept the offer to do the show.
The evening will culminate in a compilation of tunes featuring all the theme music of the six nominees for Game of the Year.
This year, Lorne needs to bring together Alan Wake 2, the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Baldur's Gate 3, Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Super Mario Wonder into a unified creation.
This includes two scary games, two great role-playing games, a superhero action movie and the planet's beloved plumber.
Once the nominated contestants are unveiled only a few weeks prior to the show, is that considered a challenge?
Lorne informs BBC Newsbeat that it is quite challenging.”
You are continually striving to ensure that it is a seamless piece and that viewers will be comfortably aware that this year has been encapsulated.
I try to consider what I, as the audience, would want to listen to and how I would want to see it.
Despite not having much control over the material he is given, Lorne reveals that he pays attention to the titles that have earned positive feedback from game reviewers.
He states that he is always paying attention to what is being liked.
He expresses that initially, one begins to experience happiness, but then something tends to come unexpectedly, causing one to become surprised.
And then you acquire it and you're simply left bewildered.
Many admirers would concord that Lorne succeeds in his endeavor, and it's regularly the pinnacle of the evening.
Geoff Keighley, who has been the organiser of The Game Awards for the past nine years, sees it as a "celebration" of gaming.
This year has brought a wealth of acclaimed titles, so there is plenty to be joyous about.
People have been inquiring as to whether the show will take into consideration the mass layoffs that the games industry has experienced.
Much like other awards presentations, people have been discussing whether the event should recognize global occurrences such as the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The Game Awards and its sister event, Summer Game Fest, have been the subject of criticism due to their perceived overly-commercial nature and lack of female representation on stage.
BBC Newsbeat posed queries regarding the issues mentioned and more to the event organisers but not all of them were responded to.
Geoff's collaborator Kimmie Kim stated to Newsbeat, "Our main priority has always been and still is to produce entertainment that is enjoyable for viewers and participants involved in the program."
Furthermore, as the gaming industry becomes more accommodating, we wish to extend a warm welcome to those not previously familiar with it.
As Geoff has stated: "Our objective is to continually enhance and perfect our strategy annually."
Last year, the unexpected fame of the musician Pedro Eustache was sparked by his heartfelt woodwind solo, which went viral and made him known as "Flute Guy".
Lorne states that he has been acquainted with him for roughly 15 years. He was great."
I refer to him as the Flute Guy in all communications now; he was terrific. He deserves it!"
He will certainly return and have another solo performance. It is only fitting that he should have it!
He is completely devoted to music; it is integral to his identity. His energy and enthusiasm as he performs is evident. It was gratifying to witness such a positive and passionate response to his music from the crowd last year.
Lorne asserts that the orchestra's high visibility at the awards has prompted more individuals to dive into orchestral music, and, in some cases, take up an instrument.
He believes that game music illustrates that it is not the same as classical music from the past.
The orchestra is appealing to a broad range of ages, introducing a new audience to a sonic experience they might not have had otherwise.
I believe that if we fail to draw in younger generations, the idea of live music will eventually disappear - we have to ensure that people still want to attend these events and take in the sounds.
The Game Awards will occur in Los Angeles at 12:30am GMT on Friday.
