X, formerly known as Twitter, has officially retired its well-known blue and white bird logo. The symbol on the mobile app changed to an "X" on Friday night, a part of a broad rebrand that the site's proprietor Elon Musk announced earlier this month. This transformation from Twitter to X reflects Musk's plan to turn the platform into what he has called an "everything app."
X, formerly known as Twitter, recently changed its famous blue and white bird logo to an "X" to reflect the sweeping rebrand that platform owner Elon Musk announced. X has also launched the domain X.com, though Twitter.com still remains live. Musk shared a video of a large new X logo glowing on top of the company's headquarters early Saturday and indicated that the company would soon "bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds." X is striving to become what Musk has called an “everything app”, and is already facing scrutiny from San Francisco cities officials for allegedly installing the sign without proper approval. In addition, Musk's love for the letter "X" is reflected in the logos of his other ventures, SpaceX and xAI, the latter of which seeks to "understand the true nature of the universe." However, analysts are wary of the risks associated with undoing years of branding behind Twitter's blue bird, as X has already experienced difficulty in keeping advertisers on the platform. To assure marketers of X's safety, Musk recently hired Linda Yaccarino, a former NBCUniversal advertising executive, as CEO. In an email to staff, Yaccarino wrote that X will be working to develop experiences in video, audio, messaging, banking and payments that will "delight" its users. Moreover, she assured employees that she and Musk will keep the “entire community up to date” on the company's developments.
