Zoom A.I. Training Now Includes Customer Data, Terms Updated

Zoom's revised terms of service lays out their right to employ certain customer data for educating its AI models. Specifically, Zoom noted that "with respect to AI, no audio, video or conversation content will be utilized to educate our models except with the customer's consent."However, when a person enables Zoom's AI capabilities, unveiled in June, they must sign a consent form allowing Zoom to teach its AI models employing their customer data. Zoom has recently updated its terms of service to allow it to use customer data to train its Artificial Intelligence (AI) models. This 'Service-generated data' includes customer usage information such as telemetry and diagnostic data. Unfortunately, customers don't have an option to opt-out. Despite the ongoing discussion about data privacy in relation to AI, Zoom has made a measured move towards AI ambitions. The update does not allow zoom to use audio, video or chat content for training purposes without customer consent. The company has introduced two generative AI features on a trial basis and customers must sign a consent form to allow their content to be used for AI. Zoom clarified in a blog post that customer content is used for AI services "solely to improve the performance and accuracy of these AI services". A Zoom spokesperson further notes that customers decide whether to enable the AI features and separately if they want to share their customer content for product improvement purposes.
